I hear you EB.

I'd like to say I've grown a bit since I did this episode a couple years ago. Not sure if that's true. I interviewed Strauss a while back and I think was influenced by some if his thoughts and writings. Maybe we'll meet for beers at some point and discuss. Too much to go into.

I don't remember how he came up in this episode. Hmmmm.

Anyway. Re: "In the Closet". Hmmm. I have the same response when I think about that episode. urm. erm. urg.

Resubscribed today, and dumped 4 other podcasts I am just not into.
Lance had tweeted about this particular show, then I realised I hadn't resubscribed when I switched iTunes from the PC to the MacMini. Oops!
I am totally into Imogen Heap.
The Frou Frou CD 'Details' got me hooked.
Then I bought the 'Speak For Yourself' and 'I Megaphone' more recently.
I can listen to 'Speak For Yourself' on repeat for ages in the car.
And 'Hide and Seek' in particular.
Anyway, enjoyed the show and sorry I have been missing out, dude.
I've downloaded all the ones after this, so I'll be catching up over the next few days.
Kudos.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for recommending this one. It was even better than the essay I read. You know Speed Dating is the fast food of dating. I don’t trust it and/or the sites.

I still find it interesting that you were called the Monster Man. One thing I truly believe is you need to limit the people you discuss your relationship/break-ups with. People love you but I think they secretly hope you will fail. Plus, it makes you look bad if you get back with them.

LOL… cock-blocking Ben

I definitely well check out the rest. I think you have inspired to write a break-up blog as well.

Have a good night!

Harold,

Thanks so much for your comments. I'm always hoping my stuff connects with at least a few people.

The email thing didn't bother me for some reason. We haven't spoken since then. I'm sure we will at some point. We've been slowly moving towards closure for the past year. Ugh.

Anyway. Thanks Harold.

One more thing: Did it bother you that she ended whatever you two had going via email? Or did you two get closure in person, or on the phone? Was that email the last you heard from her?

That closing song, whatever it's called: I've probably heard it a hundred times, but I never listened to it as clearly as I did tonight, listening to the end of your story. It gave me the chills, thoroughly, and I actually was listening to the words of the song, as if I'd heard them for the first time. Strange, that.

I was strongly affected by your story. I can strongly relate to the situation, as I'm sure many can, but your storytelling voice made this especially affecting.

Tim,

Wow. You moved me nearly to tears. I haven't cried in years, and if I knew how to, I most certainly would have. All that's to say that you have really outdone yourself, my friend.

Tim,
I just finished listening to "The Jester Card" for the second time. It was funny, touching, cleverly acted and heartwrenching. I was very moved! The insight and feeling I got is far greater than a thousand of my pathetic "What's new's" could have elicited. It's one of many of your podcasts that I have listened to. Having not responded much in the past, I now feel the need to do so more often in the future. I, like Amy, feel that there may be more to come with "hot chick". I don't know what's next if anything but I wish you well.
The music, lyrics, and vocals were great, especially that beautiful multi-harmony piece at the end. From a professional standpoint, this is a GREAT piece of work on your part.

Just wanted to let you know you got me twice in as many days:

First with this podcast - the best you've done yet imao. Really amazing way you have of telling stories - kept me in it right to the end and then a perfect build and finish. Again, really great – albeit so tragic and sad. But I guess that's unfortunately what so often makes a great story.

Second, your latest Grabbin a Slice article. Another great one. Very powerful and moving in a calm, simple way.

Nice job, my friend. You continue to amaze me with your talents.

Jonathan - Thanks man. I'm looking forward to '08.
Jason - Cincinatti! Awesome. Thanks for the support. I'm hoping to get a few steps closer to the throne this year. Thanks for commenting.
Amy - Finally. A female perspective. Yes. Moving on is much easier said than done. When she does find someone else I hope he is better than me. Time will tell.
Abbe - Hello. Not sure if we'll hear from the hot chick again. My guess is NO but I've said that before. So glad you're still listening.

Tim: Loved you and the hot chick together - your stories, your humor, your passion. I do hope the hot chick comes back and love prevails. But like Amy I do not like that Tarot Card reader. Boo! But seriously: Really good storytelling. I don't think this is the last hot chick podcast we will hear.

Tim- Thank you for your candor, your eloquence, your humor, your vulnerability. I am so sorry. I am sorry for her and for you. I hate that stupid Tarot card reader and hope she had nothing to do with influencing your hot chick. You were absolutely right to walk away from that cow when you did. I think she hates men. I'm playing, sort of. Anyway, she kind of sounded a bit off. Still, I know this story. I know it too well. Recently I realized every love leaves you changed and a bit more closed off for the next time, you know? The hardest part is fighting against yourself to stay open to the next one or worse opening back up to an old one. That's harder, as your hot chick found out. I don't think there is a 'moving on' that goes on. I don't know about anyone else, but I know that parts of me remain in love with the others even as I fall in love with someone new and I'm OK with that. Something though bothers me a bit about your hot chick's last email to you. I don't feel like it's really over, perhaps just on pause. I think she needs more courage. I bet you could help her change her mind if you wanted to. She's dreaming if she thinks she will find someone better or more in love with her.

Yo Brozer! Been a listener for a long time and decided to finally leave a comment. I've vicariously enjoyed (and dreaded) your adventures in the business (and life in general). You're quite the raconteur and if all things were fair, an obviously talented, cool, and nice guy like yourself would be the King of Hollywood. I love seeing (hearing about?) the industry through your eyes. I dated a stage manager at a theater here in Cincinnati once and that's as close as I've gotten to the business of show. Yours is a unique point of view. Please, keep it up.

Mate, solid gold as usual.
Organic even.

A baby shower with Tarot Cards and Reptiles - only in Los Angeles.

I leave LA in a month after nearly 2 years, moving back to Sydney, Australia with my Wife and 2 year old boy.

About 12 years ago now, I left my job of 12 years in banking to chase love. I moved from Melbourne to Sydney - because of a Woman.
I said, Fuck it, she's more important than pushing money around via a PC.

We head into our 10th year of marriage and I love it . I am a stay at home Dad , best job I ever had mate.
You know why?
Because I said fuck it and went against every safe judgemnt I had, and took a chance.

We lived on the French Riviera together for 6 months because we said "fuck it" and left our jobs for 6 months.
We moved here with a 4 month old baby, because we said "fuck it", lets take a chance.

Shit works out,

Love and Life, its a great thing mate.

Cheers
Andy.

You are the man Tim! I think your style is often duplicated, but no one can do it like you! You're one of a kind and I'm glad that I'm lucky enough to actually know you (more than just through your podcast). Keep doing what you're doing. You're an inspiration!

Tim,

I think that these unkempt episodes are the greatest! I could only hope to have the ability to put something together this well.

Emotions aside, your music selection for this episode are amazing... and you can almost tell what's coming by the music or have your feeling summarized in the songs you pick. Your feelings and how you put them into words are amazing and you know how to put it in a great package.

With the emotions, whatever happens, you got to have a great time with someone you love. And that's what's good.

You move me.

Once again, Reality TC is the only way to truly go. You so need your own TV show.

Move on. That's all we can do.

Hello Tim,
I've listened to all of your podcast episodes and was so moved almost to tears by "The Jester Card" that I wanted to in words place a hand on your shoulder. I grieve with you.

I know those feelings well, though my situation is different. For a while I used to be lost and mostly negative but when I met an insightful, beautiful girl at work my world changed. We became friends and we worked on several video/film projects together. She gave me encouragement and believed in me. She helped me so generously and for so long. I had (and still proudly pursue) vivid dreams of filmmaking and I helped her find her own direction towards that as well. I was truly in love and finally knew what that meant.

She didn't want to go beyond friendship, though. Also at the time I was just starting to really grasp how deep my feelings could go and I couldn't handle it. It was overwhelming. No other experience has ever compared. No other experience will ever compare, as it should be.

To vicariously live through you as you gave your eloquent remembrance in "The Jester Card" gave me pause. What if I saw her again? What would I be more afraid of, things between us remaining the same or having changed?

As you ended by reciting the Hot Chick's text message I was directly touched by the heartbreak you must've felt at that moment. Then as the closing music soothed my emotional shock I slowly recollected my thoughts and feelings and I began to think "What passion! I wish I could come across the love of my life again. To have even the slightest chance of seeing her again much less being with her is worth the risk of a jaded heart. This man is alive. I am in awe of Tim Coyne."

We became friends and we worked on several video/film projects together. She gave me encouragement and believed in me. She helped me so generously and for so long. I had (and still proudly pursue) vivid dreams of filmmaking and I helped her find her own direction towards that as well. I was truly in love and finally knew what that meant.

She didn’t want to go beyond friendship, though. Also at the time I was just starting to really grasp how deep my feelings could go and I couldn’t handle it. It was overwhelming. No other experience has ever compared. No other experience will ever compare, as it should be.

To vicariously live through you as you gave your eloquent remembrance in “The Jester Card” gave me pause. What if I saw her again? What would I be more afraid of, things between us remaining the same or having changed?

As you ended by reciting the Hot Chick’s text message I was directly touched by the heartbreak you must’ve felt at that moment. Then as the closing music soothed my emotional shock I slowly recollected my thoughts and feelings and I began to think “What passion! I wish I could come across the love of my life again. To have even the slightest chance of seeing her again much less being with her is worth the risk of a jaded heart. This man is alive. I am in awe of Tim Coyne.”
