Great Unkempt…definitely an interesting experience!
I really liked the serendipity of that story.Following your bliss comes to mind.Do you feel that most young actors and directors now days, are not as dedicated to the craft, all they want is be famous?I see as an actor that I can get caught up in my own ego, and lose sight of the bigger picture.I had to learn to put my mind and ego at rest, and listen and learn more,so I can dedicate myself to becoming a better actor.I like the definition of luck is good fortune, but its also when preparation meets opportunity.
Good story Tim. It went in a direction I didn’t expect, which made it all the better.
Tim,
Great story. “God moves in mysterious ways his wonders to perform.” Mike Damone is an LA miracle that graced your life. Wishing him and you all good things.
None of us can wait for permission to move forward. And, Yes, “You got it.”
Onward….

Awesome Unkempt episode !
I once directed a scene in a small movie myself and my friends made where we “borrowed” a large room on our school’s campus. As we were setting up for filming we were interrupted by a passing janitor who was suspicious of us. He wondered if we were setting up for the event that was taking place in this room later that evening. Of course, we said “Yes”.
BTW, I’m currently listening to the Ronald Jenkees album I just purchased because of your show. You have great music selection.
Looking forward to the next episode.
Scott – Thanks so much.
Anthony – Not sure about the “wanting to be famous” thing. I think people desperately want to be validated. They want the world, the powers that be, to deem them worthy of a career. Sometimes a certain level of fame comes with that. The ego is a tough thing to be reckoned with. For sure.
Rob – Thanks. I was hoping the ending would come as a surprise.
Janet – Great to hear from you. Damone certainly was an inspiration.
Ron – Awesome re: Ronald Jenkees. Love that guys music. I’m glad you hooked him up with a sale.
Tim.. another nice show.. finally updated my podcast and I’ve got a little catching up to do, but couldn’t resist taking a listen to your lastest one. As always, its great to see the TheHollywoodPodcast light up with a new episode! Cheers!
ps.. I’m still planning on coming out there, just taking some time to write a few features before I do.

Awesome, awesome Unkempt episode. I just realized what makes these things you do so great for anyone, not just your fellow LA dwellers. Even a schmuck like me sitting here in freakin’ Helsinki, Finland.
It’s called ‘therapeutic metaphor’. Meaning, the details in well-crafted story parallel the listener’s situation enough to perceive it more clearly, or to see new aspects of it. You do it well.
“Therapeutic Metaphor”!
I like the sounds of that Juho.
Great to hear from you and I’m thrilled that a guy in LA and a guy in Helsinki can connect like this.
Tim
Tim,
I discovered you about a month ago. I’m an actor who is moving next month to Los Angeles after 10 years in New York City, and I just wanted to say — your podcasts are excellent, dude. They’re just what I want to hear — good stories, great details about the audition, the job, the meeting, the process, the city, the people. I’m enjoying them immensely. Thank you for doing them. Unkempt #33 frickin’ rocked.
Michael
I was thinking when you got to the part about the student director going off with the security guard, “Just do it! Do it now!” So when he corralled you all and pushed, I thought “Yeah baby, go for it, don’t be weenies!”
So will you get to see this when it’s complete?
Yet another great podcast, Tim. And I never get tired of saying that.
Excellent story crafting and storytelling (a rarity in Hollywood!). I really enjoy your podcasts and can’t help but think that they can somehow be launching pads for live performances. Have you done that or have any plans to (like The Moth events, themoth.org).
Michael – So glad you found me. Drop me a line when you land in LA and we’ll meet for a beer or coffee. Would love to help in any way that I can.
Beth – Ahhh. Beth B;) It comforts me to know you’re still out there, watching my back. Doing my best not to be a weenie;)
Kirk – Yeah. I do put these stories on stage quite often. I’ve done The Moth in LA a few times. Haven’t done it in a while though. Sometimes the themes don’t quite work for me. Thanks for the encouragement. Much appreciated.
Tim,
I’d love to know the parents who reamed Jim Shearer’s ass for taking you to “Fast Times….”. You must tell me sometime on the phone. They’re probably the same parents who would have reamed your mother’s ass for taking a bunch of you guys to see “Scarface” with Al Pacino. Nothing like a nice Brian DePalma movie for a group of 10 year olds.
Excellent episode Tim.
DAD
Great story!
You put REAL into Hollywood
and it makes me want to see FT@RH
i just graduated from USC grad program. I GOTTA know who this was. Hilarious. I think I’ve called you in for an audition before too, your name sounds so familiar.
Please email me.

Yo Tim,
It’s been many years, but I just stumbled on this thread. What a great story!!..when I think of all the Damone quotes & references throughout high school, it makes it that much funnier. Wasn’t there someone we called Damone?? for one reason or another?
Keep up the good work & if you’re ever back in Boston give us a shout.
Dad – Thanks. I’ll tell you which parents it was the next time we talk.
Kari – Thanks so much. The movie actually still holds up pretty good and it’s worth it just to see a young Sean Penn, Phoebe Cates, Jennifer Jason Leigh . . . and of course Damone;)
Raul – No can do my friend. My lips are sealed.
Mitch – Great to hear from you. It’s been a long time my friend. Yes. I think we did call someone Damone but I forget the context. I think Dilo used to call someone Damone. I called Dilo the day that this incident happened.
Tim, that was great! I love seeing that Mitch is listening and you talking about Dilo…too funny!
Hi Carolyn.
Thanks so much. Yeah, it was fun to receive a comment from Mitch. We haven’t seen each other in a very long time.
Always great to hear from you.
Tim
I listen to this episode over and over while I write theater and film scripts. It is hilarious, heartbreaking, fearless, humbling, and audacious simultaneously; all of these elements converge to produce an excellent bit of storytelling! Keep up the great work! Cheers!
Hey La-Tonia.
Thank you so much! You have me blushing over here.
So glad this episode holds up to repeated listens.
Tim
