Great work as always Tim: Really feel like the responsibility lies with the celebrity on this one, unless the comment is slanderous, the meeting between the two people is a shared experience. Just because one person is famous, doesn’t mean that they “own” the situation. Ms. Adams didn’t have to get angry about the fact that he complimented her, and certainly didn’t need to get him canned.

Great to hear from you Jack.
I don’t think any high profile place would be cool with their employees sharing with the world every interaction they have with their clientele. But she did totally screw him over. I also think five years at any place should earn you a conversation, and even some punishment, but to be instantly fired . . . I just think five years of service should get you some level of respect.

This makes me so fired up! I worked in the restaurant/bar industry on and off for 12 years and the worst place is here in L.A. Celebrities feel as though they are entitled to so much more than everyone else and management feeds into this ego bloating. I’m so glad that Jon called out Jane Adams–every celebrity needs to be called out on their misbehaviors to their fellow humans. Her attitude in dealing with the situation is disgusting, and so is Barneys’. Bravo to Jon and bravo to you Tim for doing a piece on this story. As always, thought provoking, entertaining and inspiring.

Jane Adams was a bit rubbish to get so annoyed about a situation that ultimately she started. And Jon really should have quit while he was ahead after the first Twitter – he knew he’d riled her up, that was his cue to stop.

But ultimately I think the restaurant comes off worst here. Jon hadn’t been given an official warning, and Jane Adams probably didn’t know he’d get fired.

messed up… he should not have been canned immediately “without a trial”, so to speak. Certainly a reprimand would be in order; and he seems to understand that now. Isn’t that how we learn as human beings? Screw up, and you get a kick in the ass. This was not a sudden-death situation.

I feel she may not have understood that just saying a word or two, because of her “position of power” in the situation, would get him fired. The world is full of sycophants, including people who run corporations… “Yes ma’am, of course, we understand… ” and the public figure walks away thinking the guy will get a kick in the ass, only to find out later that he was summarily fired.

Great show Tim. Nice production work.

What goes around comes around. I’m sure this story is not over. I’ll look forward to the follow-up.

I think it’s pretty clear that businesses can’t have people tweeting and blogging about their clientele but Jane Adams, her people, and the people at Barney Greengrass totally mishandled the situation. Several blogs have picked up the story. If your’re Jane Adams, this story certainly isn’t the one you want coming up on your Google page. Yikes.

Wow! I love the new and improve web page! I liked the Twitter story. I’m a big fan of Twitter. This new social media age can be blessing and a curse .I think you must know your audience, and what it is you want to convey. This story sounds like a big misunderstanding, and the power of celebrity wins, unfortunately! Thanks Tim for following me on my Twitter page, your the first celebrity to follow me! I feel so honored! Thanks!

    Yo Anthony.

Thanks re: my site. A work in progress for sure but a redesign was long overdue.

    Celebrity?

    Come on! Hardly.

Always great to hear from you.

interesting story, but I don’t feel sorry for him.

yes, it sucks that he got fired, but he seems to have this attitude of, “oh, poor me, it’s everyone else’s fault.” his twitter page blames twitter for his unemployed status…but twitter didn’t hold a gun to his head + make him tweet about Jane Adams. I’m not saying I side either way, but he can’t expect that these actions wouldn’t have repercussions, esp. after being made aware by his employer how imperative it was that they take care of the customers b/c they’re rich, blah blah blah. (btw, i don’t think the rich deserve any special treatment.)
Not saying I wouldn’t have tweeted the same — I waited tables, I bitched all the time about my customers. But the firing can’t be a surprise or an injustice. The owners have a business to run, not a place to support unemployed actors.

interesting, too, how barrett keeps saying “not that big of a deal” (repeatedly!) and yet he made a federal case out of it. sheesh.

i hear you eb. can i call you eb? ;)

totally not surprised he got fired and his tweeting would have bitten him in the ass at some point for sure

    BUT

jane adams was really lame in this scenario as well.

both things are true. and i still think that five years of service earns you a conversation, a reprimand, suspension, but not necessarily a firing.
